For people with little or no knowledge of gems and jewelry or design, and who wish to learn the basics of freehand drawing and to understand the techniques of how to represent jewelry design using techniques to represent the general idea of the piece of jewelry first through sketches and pencil drawings.
Topics to include:
Sketching in pencil: study of lines, solids and voids and proportion
Background techniques: tones – shadowing – haching
Two and three dimensional represent of the pieces: line-form-light-shadow
Solid and empty spaces
Analysis of form: lines-volume-proportions-symmetry
Colour: reproduction-application-layering-colour scales
Study of the colouring of metal surfaces
Representation of the processing techniques: hammering-diamond cutting-silking
Study of the colours of the different types of stones: simple-cut stones-cabochon-cuts on matte and semi-transport stones-diamonds, opals, pearls.
Representation of decorative techniques: embossing-enameling-modeling-engraving-casting.
